In 2006, Sacha Lichine, son of the late Alexis Lichine, one of the most influential wine writers and producers of the last century, purchased and restored the Château d’ Esclans estate located about 30 minutes north of St. Tropez.
After renovating the cháteau, planting new vineyards and installing state of the art equipment, Sacha partnered up with Patrick Léon (former winemaker for Château Mouton-Rothschild, Opus One and Viňa Almaviva) to create a new style of rosé using Bordeaux winemaking techniques including oak aging.
The vineyards from this property, planted primarily with Grenache and Rolle are situated in the heart of the Côtes de Provence appellation in the cooler rocky limestone hillsides away from the warmer flatlands. The cooler temperatures enable the winemaking team to produce distinctive rosés with unsurpassed freshness and fruit.
In addition to the iconic Whispering Angel, Sacha produces three expressions of rosé, Rock Angel, Les Clans and Garrus, rated as the best and most exclusive rosé in the world
